UK snow chaos forces cancellation of Coca-Cola Christmas truck stop in Birmingham due to extreme wea

FANS of the Coca-Cola Christmas truck in the West Midlands have been left disappointed after being told it won't visit today.

The soft drinks giant said that heavy snow, 11 inches deep in some places, meant the truck wouldn't be able to reach Birmingham.

However, they hoped that fans in the area would be able to see the truck tomorrow when it travels to nearby Coventry.

In a message posted on Twitter, Coca-Cola said: "Update: We would like to inform you that due to extreme weather conditions the Coca-Cola Christmas truck stop in Birmingham will not go ahead today.

"We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused. We hope to see you tomorrow at your closest stop in Coventry (weather permitting)."

North Wales and central England were worst hit by last night's snowfall which measured 11 inches in the Welsh village of Sennybridge.

The snow has caused travel chaos all over the country with traffic on the M11 and M25 grinding to a halt as a result.

More of the white stuff is expected to drop tonight and amber warnings remain in place across much of central England.

It stretches from Chester in the north down to Gloucester in the south.

Yellow warnings, which are less severe, are in place across much of the rest of the county.

The Coca-Cola Christmas truck has been outlawed by council and health bosses in Cumbria because it dishes out sugar-laden soft drinks.

Cumbria County Council leader Stewart Young and public health boss Colin Cox signed an open letter to Coca-Cola, urging it to rethink its Happy Holidays message.

It is not clear whether the letter, sent prior to organisers announcing the truck's festive timetable for 2017, influenced Coca-Cola's decision to avoid Cumbria this year.
