The Grand Tour presenter Jeremy Clarkson's childhood home goes on the market for 1.2million

JEREMY Clarkson's childhood home has gone on the market for £1.2 million,

The presenter, who is fronting new series The Grand Tour later this month, grew up at the picturesque Grade II-listed Rowland Bridge House near Doncaster, South Yorks, in the early 1970s.

His mum Shirley Clarkson created the first Paddington Bear at the luxury home so she could pay for ex-Top Gear host Jeremy's school fees.

The toy was modified by the designer to include Paddington's famous wellie boots so he could stand up by himself.

Jeremy, who was just 12 at the time, became the first child to own one of the soft toys in the UK alongside sister Joanna.

They were so popular with Joanna and her friends that Mrs Clarkson went on to make thousands of the marmalade-loving teddies - many of which were lovingly hand-stitched in her kitchen.

Mrs Clarkson even agreed royalties with Paddington Bear's creator Michael Bond and they are now sold all over the world.

The six bedroom family home, which dates back to the 17th century, is now on the market with luxury estate agents Fine & Country for £1.2 million.

It boasts a former boathouse on the water, which offers garage space, and an office studio.

The plush home also includes a music room and cinema room and natural timber and original oak beams featured throughout.

The house itself is constructed out of stone under a pantile roof and boasts beautiful gardens and an orangery.

James Stock, from Fine & Country Bawtry, said: "We are excited about the prospect of listing a property with so much presence within the local area.

"It is a home that is known and loved by a huge about of people and occupies such a dominant position within the popular village of Tickhill."

It isn't clear how much Jeremy actually remembers from his childhood though - in his Sun column this weekend, the presenter admitted drawing a blank.

He wrote: " I remember peeling a hard-boiled egg when I was two and then it’s a blank until I was ten and I went for a walk with my neighbours, Lynn and Jane, and we sang In The Summertime, by Mungo Jerry.

"It breaks my heart to think how much effort my mum and dad must have put into my Christmas presents every year and I can’t remember what any of them were.

"Nor can I recall any family trips, birthday parties or much of anything at all."
