Cop killed in Christmas Day head-on crash was star of Police Interceptors TV show

THE officer killed in a head-on crash on Christmas Day starred in the TV documentary Police Interceptors.

PC Dave Fields and Lorraine Stephenson both died in the A57 smash in Sheffield when the cars they were travelling in collided at around 8.15pm.

The 45-year-old cop featured in series 4 of the Channel 5 show about traffic officers on patrol across the country.

The series, aired between 2011-2012, follows officers in South Yorkshire's Road Crime Unit responding to calls around Sheffield.

Dave's untimely death came after the BMW3 he was driving crashed into a silver Citroen C3 as he responded to a 999 call.

The father-of-two was pronounced dead at the scene, while passenger Lorraine Stephenson, 61, died from her injuries in hospital.

Dave's devastated family paid tribute "a loving husband and dad of two, who was a dedicated officer committed to his job.

"We are heartbroken by our loss and ask that our privacy please be respected at this devastating time.”

Assistant Chief Constable David Hartley added: “On behalf of the force I’d like to offer my sincere condolences to all of those left bereaved by this terrible tragedy - our thoughts, love and support are extended to all those affected.

“We have lost a friend and a colleague from our police family in this incident.

A 63-year-old man who was driving the Citroen was also taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating.
