AN ANTIQUES Roadshow guest refused to sell his vintage clothing collection despite it being worth a jaw-dropping amount - and here's why.

Expert Claire Tole-Moir was at Crystal Palace Park in south east London, to take a look at the guests garments.

The visitor brought in clothes from one of Britain's most daring designer's, Dame Vivienne Westwood.

As an avid fan of the fashion icon, the guest was also wearing an item from her last collection she worked on before passing away in December 2022.

The guest presented a few things from the fashion designer's 1980s pirate line, including pirate shirts, scarves, headgear, and boots.

Claire who was fascinated, asked as to how he obtained the items, and he replied that he would save his money and get a coach from Birmingham to London to buy the fashion designer's clothes,

Taking a closer look at the items, Claire picked up a Harris tweed jacket from 1987.

"It was based on uniforms worn at private schools," she said.

The guest also brought in a harris tweed crown, which was modelled on the Coronation crown.

The expert said: “In terms of value if you were to take all of this to auction, I wouldn’t be surprised if you would get around £10,000 to £15,000.”

The visitor was taken aback, but he persisted on not selling the collection.

He said that Vivienne gave people "identity" by making clothing for underrepresented groups, and he still proudly wears the clothes.

"It's not going to auction because I still wear it," he told Claire.
